About ViewOurPlanet
ViewOurPlanet is an independent online platform for exploring countries, geography and global statistics through interactive maps, comparisons and data visualizations.
Our Mission
We aim to make publicly available global data easier to find, understand and compare. Our tools help visitors explore how countries differ, how selected indicators change over time, and how geography shapes our world.
What You Can Explore
- 195 country profiles with geographic facts, population, economic and social indicators.
- Country comparisons and global rankings.
- Recent earthquakes displayed on an interactive map.
- Ocean Depth Explorer and Antipodes Map for exploring Earth.
- World Time & Sun Explorer with city times and a day-night map.
- Find Your Ideal Weather: filter cities by month, temperature, rainfall and humidity using historical climate data.
- Geography games to practice flags, capitals and country facts.
Where Our Data Comes From
We use publicly available information from established sources, including the World Bank for country indicators, Eurostat for selected European statistics and price comparisons, and the USGS for earthquake information. Our Ideal Weather tool uses historical climate data from NASA POWER.
How to Read Our Statistics
Country indicators may have different reference years because reporting schedules and data availability vary. Historical charts display available observations, not estimates for missing years. The Country Insights section compares the first and last available values in the selected period; a change does not, by itself, explain its cause.
Some indicators, such as GDP measured in current US dollars, are affected by prices and exchange rates. An increase in nominal GDP should not automatically be interpreted as real economic growth. Climate filters describe historical monthly conditions rather than forecasting the weather on a particular day.
Updates and Limitations
Data providers revise their figures and publish new observations at different times. Some countries or indicators may have missing or older data. Earthquake feeds can also be updated after an event is first reported. We display source information and reference years where available, but users should consult the original provider for critical decisions or the most recent official release.
